Pedemontana Route – Stage 4 – from Malnisio to Maniago
Stroll through the old town of Montereale, and stop to admire the frescoes inside the church of St Rocco, another patron saint of travellers and pilgrims. The church is always open.
Follow the path that goes up towards the mountains: you will find a bridge with a breathtaking view of the emerald green and turquoise blue waters of the Cellina stream imprisoned by the Ravedis dam. After this moment of rest and contemplation, continue along the uphill CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) path, which climbs up and offers other spectacular views. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Magredi:
this is a vast alluvial plain formed by the Cellina gravel, which over the centuries has become a veritable steppe, a precious natural environment that is very rare in northern Italy.
A gentle descent through the woods will take you to the centre of Maniago, nicknamed ‘the city of knives’.
